Christmas Eve

Jess and I are trying our best to have a low key Christmas this year with the baby giving Jess lots of uncomfortable and unproductive contractions. We attended the Christmas Eve service at church, which went okay for about the first 20 minutes. Simon enjoyed singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer during one of the hymns (and the silence that followed). Then Simon's serious case of the wiggles set in and we had to exit for the library with some of the other kids and dads.
Jess came to rescue me after a while and took him up to the nursery. I went back into the service and was enjoying it until during a scripture reading...BANG (who is opening the door so loudly). I turned to see my son entering the sanctuary running and squealing down the main isle towards the front (where's Jess?, not here, better chase). Simon went straight up to the alter and made a left turn looping around the pews and heading for the back again, giggling and squealing the whole way. I caught up with him about half way back to the rear of the sanctuary and scooped him up. Jess said she'd never seen me move so fast.
Simon had taken off after Jess let him get a drink at the fountain in the hall on the way back from the nursery and didn't look back. She obviously couldn't keep up in her condition. A coupe of the other ushers tried to head him off, but he whipped right past them.
We finished the service with Silent Night and Simon did very well holding the candle (with Daddy). He also rubbed both our backs while we sang. A very sweet ending to and eventful service.
At least visitors to the church will know that we have a very family friendly atmosphere.

Rudolph

Christmas day during Simon's nap time he took it upon himself to color his nose (dark blue). We made the mistake of leaving a single pen in his room during nap time, and he found it. This goes right along with the fact that he has been singing, and asking us to sing to him, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for the last week or so. I suppose he just wanted to be Rudolph. Luckily it was washable ink and came off without too much trouble since he also colored on his sheets, the wall and one his new books.

hospital visit 12/3

Jess and I went to the hospital the night of 12/3-4 since she had had contraction all through the previous night and day. They got down to about 3 minutes apart by 8pm, so the nurse advised a visit to labor and delivery at the Hospital. Unfortunately all the contracting did not make anything really happen other than lack of sleep and discomfort.

Simon got to spend the night at his friend Helena's house (thanks Joe and Christine!!)

here yet?

Jess is technically full term Friday (37 weeks) and she's having consistent contractions, but not much progress. Hopefully either the contractions will stop or the baby will come and get it over with. That's all for now.

dance, dance, dance

Well, it seems #2 is quite and active little person. It keeps Jessica entertained in the evenings on the couch and in bed dancing the night away. We were hoping for a slightly less exuberant child this time, but it's not looking that way so far. :)

20 weeks and all ok

Jess just had her 20 week check-up and everything is fine. The baby is starting to look much more like a baby now. Simon said it looks "pretty weird" in the sonogram pictures, but nothing out of the ordinary I assure you.

We're happy for some cooler weather this week and plan to get out for a short hike in the mountains on Saturday. We'll try to take some pictures and post them here.

check-up

Jess had a check-up on Wednesday. It was supposed to be at 10am, but the doctor was not available until 4:25 - sheesh, at least she only works one floor down in the same building. The doctor offered to find out the sex of the baby, she was tempted, but did not. Everything was fine.

small beginnings

That's right, you may have heard there is another baby on the way. The official due date is 12/31/09, or maybe 1/1/10. Jess and I have been debating the benefits of a 2009 baby vs. 2010; tax right off vs. binary birth date and many others. I guess we'll just have to wait and see when the little one comes. I'm sure it will be neither of those actual dates.

We're officially into week 15 and the second trimester. The Internet tells me that the baby should be about 4" long and about 2-1/2 ounces. Jess is starting to show, and went on a maternity clothing shopping trip with Diana last weekend.

Diana also helped us organize Simon's old clothes and toys into age categories and helped us to prepare for his move into the bigger bedroom (currently the guest room) in the next month or so. We plan to let him pick a paint color and some curtains and participate in his bedroom upgrade.

Roger was also hear and helped me to replace the rotting and sagging patio covering that is outside the guestroom window. This will allow much more light to shine in the bedroom and make it a much more pleasant outdoor play space as well.

We're all very excited! Stay tuned.
